Includes questions and answers on SI IT benchmarking program.

DEC 2011
Healthcare Informatics on the IT Benchmarking Program

"Participation in the 2010 Scottsdale Institute's IT Benchmarking Program has helped our leadership understand IT cost drivers while highlighting outliers and anomalies. This allows our Health Ministry CIOs to investigate and discuss performance with internal and external peers; proactively identifying areas for improvement."

- Mark Barner, Senior VP & CIO, Ascension Health

Scottsdale Institute's approach to collecting IT cost benchmarking data uniquely categorizes IT cost data so that it can be compared accurately with peers, and also provides a snapshot of Meaningful Use status.

See how significant using normalized data can be: Normalization in a Nutshell.

You can also see what your colleagues are saying about the program in the August Inside Edge: Healthcare IT Budgets are not Created Equal.

Scottsdale Institute is providing the basic program; there is no charge for your organization to participate. Your data will remain anonymous unless you opt to be identified to other participants. Participation is not limited to SI member organizations. Please email scottsdale@scottsdaleinstitute.org to request instructions and include the following information:

  • Name, phone number, title and email address of primary contact
  • Name of organization and parent organization (if applicable)
  • Name of the organization that referred you to this program if you are not a Scottsdale Institute member organization

We are confident you will find this to be of great value in understanding IT metrics. Benchmarking with peer organizations can enable participants to share and improve IT management practices and processes. Multi-hospital systems entering data at the individual organization level will have an option to receive a database of their own participating facilities.
