Enabling Patient Care and Safety:
A Look Ahead

October 22 & 23, 2002

Metropolitan Chicago Hospital
Council Conference Center
222 South Riverside Plaza, 19th Floor
Chicago, IL 60606

Overview: Information Technology, Physician, and Patient Care and other Clinician Executives share successes and lessons learned using IT to embrace patient care, and to consider the future of these critical initiatives and technologies. In particular, the impact of these important initiatives on nursing as well as physician care processes will be discussed. Member leaders from all functional areas are welcomed and encouraged to attend. The program is designated for continuing medical education credits by Allina Health System.

Meeting Format: Presentations, expert panelist commentary, and informal, open discussion in the Scottsdale Institute tradition of stimulating interaction, networking, and sharing lessons learned. Panelists will represent varying viewpoints on each discussion topic. Business casual attire.

Objectives: This program is designed for Information Technology, Physician and Nursing Executives. Upon completion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the key issues on each agenda topic for Information Technology, Physician, and Patient Care leaders.
  2. Give specific examples of both patient care and financial benefits that have been achieved through the use of the technologies discussed.
  3. Relate others' experiences in leading edge patient care and safety efforts to your organization in a useful and practical way, and to non-health care industry lessons in safety.
  4. Compare the benefits versus the cost of the technologies and vendors discussed and determine the potential fit for your organization.
  5. Explain the impact of factors such as governance, team structure, phasing, and the use of standards on the successful use of technologies to support patient care.
